Frequently Asked Questions

Experienced Research Consultant

Barry Dauphin PhD: Experienced graduate research consultantI have consulted with students for over 10 years.  I have worked with numerous students in various phases of their projects.  I earned a Master’s in experimental psychology from Tulane University in 1986 and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Syracuse University in 1988.  I have published and presented papers in both experimental psychology and clinical psychology.  I have served as a President of a local psychological organization and have held other leadership positions.

I am able to assist in the following areas:

  • organizing ideas

  •  how to better understand the psychology literature of your interest

  •  generating empirically testable hypotheses

  • research design and methodology

  •  statistics (what to use, how to run, how to interpret)

  • writing guidance

  • preparing for oral defence, etc.

I have been especially helpful for students who have seen themselves as work inhibited (i.e., procrastination on their project) or feel overwhelmed by the notion of doing a dissertation or thesis.  I have worked very effectively with people who have not felt confident about this part of their graduate work even when they feel confident about other parts, such as their clinical work.  As a clinical psychologist, I also understand some of the special challenges and difficulties encountered by clinical grad students when trying to tackle their research.
